Ganguly – Controversial Prince
John Wright has rightly said about him “A man with heart in his sleeves”.
“He [Ganguly] was a special man,” Wright was quoted as saying in the New Zealand Herald. “He wore his heart on his sleeve and there was an arrogance that used to get up people’s noses. But I think that was good for us, it was good to have that feistiness as the country learned it was becoming such a powerhouse in world cricket.
I still feel strongly that Ganguly will be back into the national side shortly in different version of the game:: Twenty-20.
I whole heartily welcome this new form of game as it opens up new avenues in cricket. No more draggy middle overs of 50 over games nor 2 rpo test matches. Inspite of Oz making the test matches a 4rpo game, it still hangs around 2 to 3 rpo for other teams. Twenty-20 will be a very good alternative for this and will give chances to try more players at international level.
If Ganguly can persuade his efforts to be back in team, I see a bright chances for him in this form of game. More matches means more fatigue, Injuries, worn outs, lean forms will provide chances for lot more younger talents in this country. In a Twenty-20 game, an all rounder, is an invaluable asset. And Ganguly with his medium pace will be extremely handy. When Sachin and Rahul are going strong in mid 30s I believe lot of talent is still waiting to be exploited from “Prince of Kolkata”, provided he keeps his mouth SHUT !!!
I see him as an immature but courageous guy with lots of weakness on and off cricket. His inability to handle pace and outswingers are clear for any new ball bowlers. I donno if there is a record for dismissing the batting partners. And am sure Ganguly will be in top 5 in that. He is very innovative in making wrong calls or half way returns to make his partner strand long way from bails and balls.
Nothing works for him now. County stint is not making progess to his batting. He is caught in dirty politics of Dalmiya-BCCI-Chappell and his own bat not listening to him. The sweet noise he use to hear from bat is heard only from stumps behind him.He is in deep trouble in his own backyard as Dalmiya is back with a bang. The man who had a strong backing in making him as an international player, subsequently captain, should be now looking for his blood. Its a pity to see him plead for his chances. I can imagine how bad it would have been for other players less his political influence.
Still he is someone loved for his mighty sixes and the arrogance and damn you look for the opponent captains. He was once King of offside. His wonderful coverdrives and placements on offside are sorely missed now a days.I would happily watch a strong Ganguly than a shewag for the authority in the strokes. We need to keep something in mind “Sportsmen are emotional people. They go by heart than by brains”. We need to admire them for their talents rather than off field behaviours.
Look at the Aura he carry with him. If Ganguly can sort his batting issues, forget his past, we are on for a big visual treat. Prove critics wrong and come back DADA !!! Stop seeing the media and start looking at his bat !!!
